In July, the theatre of Montepuliciano, dedicated to the poet A. Poliziano, hosts, together with Piazza Grande, artists coming from all around the world to participate to the International Workshop of Art. In the small theatres, the vicinity and intimacy between the actors and the public embody accurately the old tradition of the oral narration.
Right not to lose this treasure of traditions originating from the rural and people culture, the Poor Theatre (Teatro Povero) was borne on the initiative of Monticchiello inhabitants. Today it is one of the most important events in the theatre panorama, written, played and directed by non professional actors, the inhabitants of this small town set in the Valley of Orcia.
The echo of the words that throughout the centuries have ennobled the art of narrating, of which the inhabitants of these towns are masters, resounds in the Theatre of Oscuri in Torrita, in the Theatre of Arrischianti in Saertano and in the numerous theatres of the area. But art is to tell stories as much as to listen them, and this case you are the artists.
